Decorative layout in wood windows
Muntins is a decorative layout, which is installed on the inside or outside of an insulated glass unit according to a previously prepared design. They are also known as slabs and play an important role in the decoration of the window structure. Meanwhile, the appearance of both the window itself and the whole house changes.
Types of layouts for wood windows
There are several types of muntins for insulated glass units. They differ in the method of fastening and installing the lamellae:

Cross-glass muntins
If the width of the insulated glass unit is 12 mm or more, the layout elements can be mounted in the cross-glass space. This type of muntins is distinguished by the maximum variety of options for decorating windows, the binding of which can have not only straight, but curved lines that form a beautiful pattern. They shall be installed at the stage of manufacturing an insulated glass unit.

Overhead muntins
This is the name of the variety that is glued to one or both sides of the insulated glass unit. They are usually installed outside the house to enhance its attractiveness. This layout is also often called Venetian muntins. They are made from aluminum, plastic or wood. They are glued to the glass surface with double-sided tape or sealant. If you want, they can be easily removed and replaced with new ones.

Constructive muntins
This type of layout serves not only as decoration, but also as a functional element that increases the rigidity and reliability of the window structure. It is manufactured together with the frame and represents a single element with it. A separate insulated glass unit is inserted into each cell of construction muntins. This is their disadvantage: the more glass windows there is, the higher the cost is.
Wood windows with muntins are used for glazing cottages and private houses. Most often they are ordered together with large panoramic windows. Muntins are also popular with owners of urban apartments of great architectural and / or historical importance. With their help, you can restore the authentic appearance of the building.
In most architectural styles, there is a tendency to install windows with a layout because in the old days glass was very expensive, and therefore it was not possible to glaze large areas at that time. Today glass has become one of the most affordable materials, so building large translucent structures is not a problem. But they require additional reinforcement and reduction of windage to reduce wind load. The muntins cope with this excellently.
Before installing windows with a layout, the architectural style of the building shall be evaluated. This will help to make a project. In OknaDrev you can order the manufacture of windows according to your drawings.
